Cancellation of Swimming Event

The Regina 2014 North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) Host Society has made the decision to withdraw swimming as an event at the Games. The cancellation of the swim competition is based on the lack of certified swim officials available to support a sanctioned swimming event which is part of the NAIG Hosting Standards.

“These decisions are not taken lightly and we have exhausted all opportunities to meet the conditions for a sanctioned swimming event” said Ron Crowe, CEO of the NAIG Host Society. “Despite this setback, we are well positioned to conduct 14 other sport events and host all participants at the Cultural Village at the First Nations University of Canada, University of Regina”.

Regina 2014 NAIG will host the athletes and teams from 21 regions in North America’s Indigenous communities as they compete in 14 different sports. It will celebrate and share North American Indigenous cultures thorough a showcase of language, tradition, art, song, dance and ceremonies.
